I sat down to lunch with Broadlink in London to discuss their upcoming new app and products and hopefully not get punched in the face for my previous videos, spoiler alert: I’m still just as pretty as I was before. I got my hands on the tiny new RM Blackbean mini (The RM4 mini), We discussed their new Broadlink RM pro (The RM4 pro), I took away one of their new Smart bulbs (the Broadlink SB1) and we’ve been chatting since about their upcoming dimmable plug socket (The SP4). This video is a breakdown of what is to come, but following this video there will be more indepth reviews of all of these products including their upcoming zero-configuration (Fastcon) technology and “NoApp” solutions which will work directly with Alexa and Google Home without any need for the Broadlink app at all! Speaking of apps, there is a new one on the way and this video will give you a sneak preview in advance of beta testing. Details of how to join the beta test for the new Broadlink app will be available in an upcoming video. Also in this video is the answer to why Broadlink decided to change the name of the “Broadlink Smart Home Skill” The Broadlink guys turned out to be absolutely lovely, very complimentary and more open than ever before to listen to feedback on their old products and their new products for 2019. Their Vice President is very candid with me and quick to respond, so I’m looking for feedback on any current issues so I can help them get the attention they need, please hit me up in the comments with any known issues you are experiencing so I can put together a list, I’m fairly confident there are still problems with the TC2 light switch, but I could be wrong! ==================== FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Instagram a brother: www.instagram.com/hibberthometech Twitter me up: www.twitter.com/hibberthometech Facebook the heck out of me: www.facebook.com/hibberthometech BUY ME A BEER Donate to the channel: paypal.me/PaulHibbert Become a monthly contributor on Patreon: www.patreon.com/paulhibbert 🙂 UK: amzn.to/2Oqdgfg US: amzn.to/2xkT1ID ==================== BUY A RELATED SMART HOME PRODUCT: AMAZON Echo dot UK: amzn.to/2PSyNSE US: amzn.to/2BuN3YQ Echo: UK: amzn.to/2PSyNSE US: amzn.to/2BuN3YQ BROADLINK RM Pro (And RF plugs) Broadlink RM pro UK: amzn.to/2fBFyrg Broadlink RM pro US: amzn.to/2LZF1d1 RF Plug sockets UK: amzn.to/2QBWT3K RF Plug sockets US: amzn.to/2PqU4xB CURTAIN TRACK MOTOR Amazon UK: amzn.to/2KaaY2A DE: www.amazon.de/dp/B07HJ1LWZ8 FR: www.amazon.fr/dp/B07HJ1BYKM IT: www.amazon.it/dp/B07HHZJ3FB CONTROL YOUR TV AND INFRARED DEVICES CHEAP! Hi Paul,
I already have the RM mini 3 but have not really used it a lot lately as I have not really felt the need as I have a lovely harmony remote for all my TV/AV anyway and find it easier to press a button rather than talk to She That Shall Not Be Named!
A question for the next time you speak to the broad link guys, is there any way to assign a button on my harmony so when I press it I can turn on my Zigbee lights? From what I can tell, Broadlink only works one way, as in taking a command from the smart world (smartthings or alexa in my case) and translating it to an IR output but I really want to do it the opposite way. I have looked at the website and I guess it is still the same in the series 4 devices (unless I am an idiot and am missing something).
It seems to me all the hardware is there in the Broadlink devices but there is something missing in the software/firmware side to make it possible.
I watch all your videos so would love to see you mention this next time you rant , I mean talk, about Broadlink.
Keep it up, love your shows!
Mike
Thanks Mike 🙂 Unfortunately it’s most likely a technical impossibility due to the nature of RF equipment being ‘dumb’. I suppose they could implement something on the software side so that when a button is pressed in the software it would trigger IFTTT as well as trigger the RF device, but that’s about it because the hardware doesn’t report it’s state. There is no upgrade in this department in their new RM Pros according to my source either. I had already discussed with them about making a new RM pro that worked the same way as the Lightwave RF stuff does where the hub remembers states on behalf of the dumb devices and so lends itself to proper smart functionality, but I think Broadlink is a way off yet. As for the Harmony triggering IFTTT I devised a cunning plan a while back, check it out!… www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wv4vGG86OQ
Also… Thanks for the beer!! Very kind of you 😀
